Well I know it was a facade because when my parents divorced it exposed the underlying rifts and emotional wounds that the displays of rationality papered over. When you ask how I know my thesis is true, I guess I tried to outline the argument for that in the article. The more I look for evidence of the rational human I was raised to believe in, the less I find!
