If I got contacted by a business whose website I’d merely visited, I’d be pissed. If I stopped at a shop front and they used a camera and PimEyes to identify me and then phone or email me, I’d be pissed. I want to choose who I give my contact details to. The fact that it can be done and is done does not mean it should be, or that people who object to it are out of touch luddites. Your responses to this article clearly indicate that there is a strong sentiment against this type of digital upskirting. That is an indicator that people don’t just pretend to care about privacy - they really do. It’s just that we live in a society where it’s been taken away, like it or not. People living under dictatorships don’t just pretend to care about freedom. You can’t really expect people to ditch their mobile phones and computers. You can expect governments to legislate to protect their citizens from digital prying.
