I said that the idea of the good, heroic America was a myth. But I disagree with you if you’re trying to tell me that America, and much of the world, did not believe this myth. But 9/11 tore away the facade and revealed America as the bare power it really is and was. I think that revelation changed American self perception. You say Trump’s win is all about economics. Sure, and immigration. But that’s not the point. The point is that in the year 2000, Trump would have been over at the pussy grabbing comment. Why wasn’t he? Why didn’t his 34 felony convictions end him? Something has changed in the American psyche. It’s complicated, and 9/11 is only one strand of it, but you vastly oversimplify when you say it’s just the economy that explains Trump. It’s much bigger than that.
