I agree it was probably not within his vision. I only argue that it was the effect. When I say that the question he put to the US was whether it could maintain the fiction of benevolence in response to the provocation, I mean this was the challenge for the US, not that Bin Laden necessarily intended these consequences. Admittedly I don’t spell out what he did or didn’t intend, because I don’t know.
